A Day in the Life – Meet Our Marketing Agent

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing you to some of the team that is part of Innovation Park Medway. On the blog, today is Jonathan Creek, the Innovation Park Medway marketing agent from Harrisons Property.

We delve into what he does during a typical day at work.

8am

Out of bed and first coffee! Then I’ll grab some breakfast and jump in the car (sometimes with my son as I drop him off at school on the way to the office).

9am

Arrive at the office and start working through my to-do list for the day. On occasion I might manage to tick some tasks off it – other days I just seem to add extra items on!

I’ve got three Instructions to Solicitors to issue so I work through these first – making a few calls to get the information I need for one of them.

10am

Online meeting with our designer who is finalising a brochure for a large development scheme. We talk through the site plan layout and agree on the changes needed.

10.45am

Enquiries have come in overnight requesting viewings at serviced offices. I call each one back and make arrangements for viewings for the next afternoon. I also arrange a time later in the week to meet with a developer who is looking for sites within Kent.

11.30pm

A call regarding IPM comes in and I talk through the opportunities with a Facilities Manager who is looking for a bigger space for their small technology company. They want to stay within Medway and so IPM offers them the perfect location. I talk through the freehold and leasehold options and how they could work with a developer to build the space they need, plus what is involved in the specification.

We chat through the PQQ application process and I arrange to contact them later the following day to offer any further assistance in completing the form. In the meantime, I send them an email with various attachments with the information they need.

12.30pm

Eat a sandwich at my desk, before grabbing my appointment schedule and heading off to carry out various viewings and an inspection.

1.00pm

During the Winter months, I start viewings and inspections much earlier in the afternoon because of the fading light.

This afternoon I have a number of viewings at a warehouse/industrial unit in Rochester. Viewings are every 30 minutes which is more than enough time for each viewer to have a good look around and ask any questions. Most businesses want to know about the local area and options for adapting the unit to suit plus any lease requirements.

We have really good links with many organisations across Kent and often point businesses in the right direction for business advice and assistance that they can tap into. So, after the viewing, I contact Locate in Kent and arrange for them to call a small business owner I had met at the viewing to discuss possible funding.

3.00pm

Off to inspect a property with a view to taking it on to the market. I will take various measurements and details, some photos and ask the client a few questions so I can then report back to them with my recommendations.

4.00pm

I make a few phone calls in the car, mostly returning messages I’d received whilst in the viewings. Then I head to my home office to draft the Heads of Terms for a commercial unit and email them out to the client and solicitors.

5.00pm

Reply to various emails that have come in during the day and make a final call to a solicitor to check on progress.

5.30pm

I quickly view my diary to see where I need to be in the morning. Then call a colleague to check that a contract I had been waiting for had arrived in the office. I’ll then switch off my laptop and head downstairs to have dinner with my family. My evenings are mostly spent meeting up with some friends to play the guitar. It’s too cold to play football now!

Thanks to Jonathan and look out for another Day in the Life coming soon.
